Autumn

Of Fates & Fables (The Complete Series)

Autumn is the season that grounds Romy’s story in the ordinary rhythms of college life even as those rhythms give way to supernatural danger. Its cool air, unsettled weather, and falling leaves make the setting tangible, while the contrast between familiar campus routines and the threats emerging around Romy gives the season a quiet narrative force.

Night in Bricktown

After drinks with Anna and Talia, Romy leaves Valkyrie tired and slightly dizzy. The crowded bar has left her overheated, so stepping into the cool autumn air brings immediate relief. The scene is set in Bricktown, where uneven brick streets complicate her walk in heels; Valkyrie stands at the far end of a narrow street, and its alley is deserted at that hour. Autumn here is physical and immediate: the breeze cools Romy’s skin, but the empty street also leaves her alone outside at night.

The Following Morning

The next morning, autumn remains visible in the landscape rather than just felt on Romy’s skin. Sunlight begins to break through gloomy clouds, but the chill still prickles her as leaves in red and yellow cover the campus. Romy hurries away from Anna and Talia under the pretense of going to class, then turns toward Bricktown and Valkyrie to look for the phone she dropped. The seasonal continuity links the bar’s nighttime vulnerability to the next day’s search: the setting changes from a deserted alley to the campus, but Romy is still moving through the consequences of the previous night.

Seasonal Frame and Changing Stakes

Autumn’s college backdrop persists alongside developments that make the ordinary setting increasingly precarious. Romy’s school stress and work concerns first accompany a night out; later, campus tension is marked by police patrols, public mockery of her werewolf claims, and a sharp drop in her followers. The season’s familiar markers do not resolve these pressures. Instead, the campus and its routines remain the ground on which Romy confronts supernatural truths, social disbelief, captivity, and the prospect of war. The evidence establishes no exact calendar date, so Autumn functions most clearly as an atmospheric and temporal frame: cool air and falling leaves situate the early scenes, while the story’s escalating dangers transform what that familiar world means for Romy.
